Dr. Paul Golby appointed Chairman of NATS Board

NATS has announced the appointment of Dr. Paul Golby CBE as Chairman of the Board. Dr. Golby served as Chief Executive Officer of E.ON UK plc from 2002 to 2011, is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and was appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chair of Council for Aston University in 2009. He is also a Non-Executive Director of National Grid. Dr. Golby succeeds John Devaney who has been Chairman since 2005. More…

AQUILA selected by UK Ministry of Defence

AQUILA, a joint venture between NATS and Thales, has signed a contract to deliver Marshall, the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) programme to transform terminal air traffic management at military airfields. The contract is valued at around £1.5bn over the course of its 22 year life-span. More…

NATS to provide iFACTS to MoD

On 6 October, NATS and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a contract amendment relating to the continued provision of future military area radar services from Swanwick for the next five years (2015 to 2020). The agreement provides an innovative combination of an affordable price and technology upgrades that will see the military step up to the use of iFACTS (the latest generation of controlling tools) along with other key improvements. The MOD investment in iFACTS also provides a significant benefit as it enables SESAR deployments without the need to maintain duplicate platforms. This fulfils NERL’s RP2 Performance Plan assumption for Single Till income from the MoD of £185 million (2012 prices) over this five year period. More…

October sees range of customer consultation

From the strategic Service and Investment Plan consultation on NATS’ long term investment programme to the Flight Efficiency Partnership which brings together airlines, ATC and flight planning system providers to identify opportunities for fuel savings, NATS has been busy consulting with our airline customers in October. NATS postpones network changes relating to Gatwick

NATS has decided to postpone the submission of proposed high level network changes (above 4,000ft) relating to Gatwick Airport, which was part of Phase 1 of the London Airspace Management Programme (LAMP). This postponement follows the airport’s decision to undertake additional analysis in order to better understand their options and next steps for the low level airspace that they are responsible for (primarily routes below 4,000ft).
