In February, NATS handled 174,069 flights in UK airspace, an increase of 2.8% compared to February 2018, which equates to an extra 4,769 flights. This seemingly substantial increase in traffic can partly be attributed to a number of snow-related flight cancellations that impacted flight numbers in February 2018.

Research commissioned by NATS, the UK’s leading provider of air navigation services, has found that 82% of British adults agree that aviation is important for the UK economy and 59% are in favour of airspace modernisation. This underscores the Transport Secretary’s comments earlier this week at the Airport Operators Association’s Annual Dinner that “reforming the way we use our airspace is among the most pressing of tasks”.
