Understanding our process

We use several criteria in our Supplier Selection process, in order to ensure fairness in contract awards and a reliable, long-term supplier base.

All suppliers go through an on-boarding process which includes the completion of a supplier assurance questionnaire via the Joint Supply Chain Accreditation Register (JOSCAR). As part of this on-boarding process, suppliers will be invited to JOSCAR, and we will also carry out Dun & Bradstreet financial checks and risk assessments.

We seek to select suppliers who can fulfil our needs, whilst maintaining ethical business relationships and enhancing fair and open competition within the marketplace.

JOSCAR

The Joint Supply Chain Accreditation Register (JOSCAR) is the supplier due diligence system for the UK aerospace, defence and security sectors. It was established by the trade organisation that represents these sectors, the ADS Group.

The system is designed to standardise requests for supplier assurance information from major buying organisations and provide a simple and cost-effective solution. By having a single source of supplier information shared with participating buying organisations within the ADS Group, we reduce the need for multiple requests to the same suppliers. Suppliers that have completed the JOSCAR process will be available automatically to other ADS major buying organisations.

Existing and potential suppliers are required to register and answer a range of questions which vary depending upon the answers given.  The questions cover areas such as software development, cyber, modern slavery, ethics, accreditations and environmental.  The responses will be used to inform specialist areas such as Health and safety, CIO and environmental affairs as well as supporting the regulatory obligation for non-financial reporting.

We require all suppliers to register with JOSCAR, apart from those who fall into a few exempted categories.

Potential suppliers will only be invited to join JOSCAR as part of a procurement activity; therefore, we request that companies do not contact us asking to be added.
